textiles and stories...

These incredible works by Michelle Elliot formed the backdrop to an inspiring and tender discussion around textiles, traditions, crafts and communities, held at the Wollongong City Art Gallery on Saturday.

The day was co-ordinated by Virginia and Amanda from Makasi Art Installations, an organisation empowering refugees living in Australia and nurturing a skills sharing environment, creating incredible art works from upcycled materials.

The talk centred around textile artists and craft workers working in the Illawarra region, some Australian, some Vietnamese, Burmese and Afghani.

It was a truly loving and inspiring afternoon, and I feel so privileged to have been asked to speak with such incredible people.

This is the work of Burmese weavers - stunning colour and craftsmanship.

The most incredible crochet work was presented by Wollongong University lecturer and artist Agnieszka Golda, who made this work with her 94 year old grandmother. They both came from Poland as refugees, bringing with them stories and traditions that Agnieszka now integrates into her art practice.

The afternoon was full of emotion and inspiration, a sharing that showed me how people from all over the world have a place here in Australia, and are welcomed with open arms and hearts.

Did someone say March...?

Oh wow. So, March. How are you?

I didn't see you there. I bet you get that ALL the time... In fact I bet there are approximately 4.5 billion people saying exactly that just now. Sorry to be so unoriginal!

But would you just SLOW DOWN please? I'm not quite ready for Autumn...

And in other news, we'll be having a stall at the Autumn Winter Sydney Finders Keepers Market on the 6th and 7th of June. It's at the most excellent Australian Technology Park again - I really love this venue! So much to love.

And yet more exciting news! I'll be doing a series of three crochet workshops for 6 lucky beginners, at the amazingly gorgeous Wattlebird shop in Austinmer. Contact Isa if you'd like to join us - there are only a few spots left, so chop chop!

behind the Goggles...

Have you seen Jodie Hilton's blog? It's a great collection of interiors, lifestyle, interviews, handy hints and loads of other fun stuff.

I was really excited when Jodie asked to interview little ol' me for her blog! Jodie visited the Etsy popup in Sydney last December, and saw my work as part of the store.

And now, the interview is live - eep! It's a bit strange reading your own words online, or in print... I always think "Oh why did I say that??"

You can go and read, and see the true extent of dagginess that is me... Yes, I really was a U2 fan... Sad I know...

Another New Year...

curated by Etsy Australia and New Zealand on Etsy

We were lucky to be featured in this gorgeous list of Etsy Australia and New Zealand sellers, titled "Autumn Homewares". Talk about forward planning!

Goggles' planning is well underway for this New Year. We're trying really hard to be a bit more strategic and a little less fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants!

We're using some great on-line planning tools to do this...

And trying to look ahead and plan new products to release at a relevant time.

Last year was so wonderfully FULL of amazing opportunities, that weren't really planned as such. I felt a little like we had to react quickly to things instead of being more in control of our development...

So this year, we're trying a different tack...

Cheers to the New Year, and new ideas!

Christmas is NOW...

Mr Fixit and I have finally landed after a MAMMOTH week of markets. PHEW!

... and Christmas is only 2 weeks away!! Eep!

Our last market for 2013 will be at the Coledale Twilight Markets, on Sunday 22 December.

It's a great place to pick up last minute gifts, right before the big day.

We have a few of our Justinia board games left from our first-ever print run. They are such a fantastic after-Christmas-lunch-game, your family will enjoy hours of screen-free bonding!

These special crocheted fruit netting vessels ($28) will also be making their way onto our market stall... Perfect for eggs, fruit, soaps, endless possibilities! They are machine washable too (on a gentle cycle) and so easy to brighten up any room.
